Children listed in "Births" that are shown in what appear to be family groups may be, but are not necessarily, related. All children who have the same surname, and whose parents have the same given names, will be grouped together in what appears to be a family group. For example, if there are 52 children with the surname Niles, AND they all have parents named John and Mary, they will all be listed under John Niles and Mary (_____). This does not mean that it is always the same John and Mary. I did not attempt to guess at family relationships, but by grouping them this way, since all children are listed under the standardized spelling, it may make it easier to find siblings in this database, especially in cases where surnames have been spelled in different ways in the record books. Mothers are always listed as "FirstName (_____)" unless the child was illegitimate. This is because the mother's maiden name is only shown in the record books when she is unmarried. |
