The information is entered in 3 separate "trees," Births, Marriages, and Deaths. These are not to be confused with normal family trees. They just made a good way to group types of records. For best results, when you get a list of matches from a name search, check the tree that the name is in to determine whether it is the entry for which you are looking. An example, if you are searching for John Niles you will get the following list: Matches 1 to 25 of 25 for Last Name equals niles AND First Name contains john
If you were looking for John Niles a father, you would look at the listings from the Births Tree that do NOT have a birth date. If you were looking for a John Niles marriage or death, you would, of course, look at the listings in the Marriages Tree or Deaths Tree, and if you were looking for John Niles' birth, you would look at entries in the Births Tree WITH a birth date. I have made no assumptions about family groups in this database. Although TNG is usually used to display family ancestry files, it seemed like a good option for this type of database, too, because of its flexibility and its great search capabilities. Even if I have determined by other means that a person was born on a certain date, was married on a certain date, and died on a certain date, and all of those events were listed in this database, that person would be listed here at least three times; once in births as the child (although perhaps also as a parent), once (or more times) in marriages, and once in deaths. In some cases, I did not get the dates entered on the "person page" for marriages, but the dates are in the notes for either the husband or the wife.
When a date, a part of a date, or any other information is entered in the notes in brackets, like this [1768], it means that the date or other information was not part of the actual entry, but the entry was listed under a group heading that provides that information. I have converted all dates to the modern calendar so that, for instance, 11th month, 1655, would be shown as January 1656. However, as stated before, the notes contain the listing as it is shown in the record book. The book used for each entry and the page number on which it can be found is at the bottom of each "person page" in the "Sources" entry. Parents do not have a source listed. Look at the person page for each child to find the actual entry and the source information. |
