The Norton ME Church is now called the North Hunterdon United Methodist Church.

Personal Information  Arlyne Stump lists a child John of this family, born 1 June 1848 who apparently lived long enough to marry.
    • I have not found this child on any census reports with Joseph's family, but Dennis Melligan did have a son John who would fit that time-frame. I believe the John she lists is actually son of Dennis and Martha (Brown) Melligan.
Personal Information  There is a lot of discrepancy in the ages of the children of Joseph and Matilda on the census records, and even in Joseph's age.
    • Joseph was illiterate. I don't know if Matilda was or not, but I would assume so. It is understandable that people who are illiterate would have a problem keeping track of ages of themselves and their children, and this would explain the descrepancies. I would guess that the first census each child appears on would be the closest to being correct.
