Amos and Cynthia This picture of Amos and Cynthia was probably taken between Sep 1861 and May 1862, since this is the period that Amos was in the Union Army. Amos was born 22 Nov 1808 in Eastport, Maine and died 13 Sep 1886 in Westport, New Hampshire. Cynthia was born 28 July 1814 in Winchester, New Hampshire and died 19 Jan 1870 in Winchester, New Hampshire. They were married 5 April 1832 in Winchester, New Hampshire. According to his Civil War papers, Amos was 5'9", with brown hair, blue eyes and a florid complexion. He apparently lied about his age to join the army, a not uncommon occurrence in those days. He was listed as age 44 when he was discharged from the army, but was actually 60. He served but a short time, from Sep 1861 to May 1862, when he was discharged because of poor health, suffering with rheumatism and deafness. Thanks to Sharon Goodman for sharing this picture with me. The picture had been in her family for several generations and had been mistakenly thought to be the parents of Sarah M. and Eliza E. Clark. Sharon's mother discovered the error when she saw a picture of Cynthia and realized it was the same woman as in this photograph, and Doris Sheridan confirmed that it is indeed Amos and Cynthia. | |

Anniversary This picture is used in the newspaper clipping of Nelson and Belle's 61st wedding anniversary. The clipping was from the "Keene Sentinel" and was from about 1946. The date was cut off of the clipping that Doris R. Sheridan found in the Rich Family Bible. The text was as follows: CASTORS OBSERVE 61st ANNIVERSARY OF WEDDING - Mr. & Mrs. Nelson CASTOR of Monadnock Court, who were married in Keene Jan. 1, 1884, observed their 61st wedding anniversary in their home on Monday. Mr. & Mrs. Ray R. BATTERSBY, a nephew and niece of Orange, Mass. who were married Dec. 30, 1944 were week-end guests of the Castors. Mr. & Mrs. CASTOR received many messages of congratulations and also gifts from their relatives and friends. Thanks to Doris R. Sheridan for sharing this clipping with me. | |
Anthony Combs' house This is Anthony Combs' house in Winchester, Vermont. The picture was taken from inside the Combs Bridge. The photo was taken in 1986 by a Combs descendant who sent it to Doris Sheridan. The house has been remodeled and the wing on the left was added by the present owner. I'm not sure whether the house was built by Anthony, Sr. or Anthony, Jr. Anthony Combs, Sr. was born 7 July 1753 in Douglas, Massachusetts and died 15 April 1817 in Winchester, New Hampshire. Anthony, Jr. was born 6 Nov 1791 in Winchester, New Hampshire and died 6 April 1872 in Winchester, New Hampshire. Thanks to Doris R. Sheridan for sharing this picture with me. | |
Arthur and Anna Arthur and Anna Nelson Blanchard with Helen Castor | |
Arthur and Anna Blanchard This picture might be a bit earlier or later than 1930, I'm not sure. If my guess is right, Anna would be 59 and Arthur would be about 61. Looking at it, I can sure see where I got my looks. Anna is heavier than me, but her face could be a picture of me if it was 70 years later. | |

Arthur William Blanchard | |
Arthur William Blanchard | |
Arthur William Blanchard and Family The back of the picture simply says Arthur Blanchard and family. I would guess that the woman sitting is his mother, Nettie (Stacy) Blanchard Waldo, the woman standing is probably his sister, Gracie. | |
Arthur, Anna, Emily, and Helen This was probably taken in Payette, Idaho when Helen was about 7, so I'm dating it as 1932. | |
