He hauled the rocks from Big Tejunga Canyon in an old crank-start pickup with a wooden bed. He still had the truck parked in front of the house in La Canada where he lived when I was young, but it no longer ran. This is before the steps were added to the front. Since I can't see any other steps, I would guess they were on the right side where they can't be seen in the picture. This house was still there in summer of 2000 when I was on my way to California to work, but there are no wide open spaces around it anymore as there are in this picture. Many of the pictures in this album were taken at this house. When I was young we lived in it, too, until about 1953.
When I looked at the picture in an enlarged view, the woman in the white dress looks like Anna (Nilsdotter) Blanchard, but I could be wrong about the man being Arthur. |
